Stephen Mooney Fund
A fund established in honour of a coach and dear friend, Stephen Mooney.
About the Fund
The Fund has two very clear purposes:
• to assist coaches to be the best that they can be when working with children.
• to provide assistance to children within the club in times of hardship.
As a club we already pay for coaches to train for the Level 1 Coaching Certificate but we appreciate that the most important aspect about coaching children in grassroots football is to be able to understand children and to be able to create the right environment for them to learn to play and love the game. Stephen was passionate about this and so the Stephen Mooney Fund was set up to help fund coaches within the club to take further training through the FA Youth Awards.
Naturally as a community-based club, we already help the children of families facing financial hardship, but the Stephen Mooney Fund allows us to go much further and helps provide, for example, funds towards travel to and from matches or funds to pay for new football boots.
The club continues to raise money for the fund by holding an annual charity run on our presentation day.
We would like to thank all those people who made very kind donations in memoriam including Stephen’s colleagues at Wigan Council, the staff and children of Woodfield Primary School, family members and friends.
